Armed police officers swiftly responded to a school incident yesterday, securing the premises and apprehending a teenager suspected of issuing death threats. The young individual remains in police custody today after the law enforcement operation at a secondary school in Carmarthen.
Ysgol Bro Myrddin school was placed on lockdown following reports of a threat directed at a student, with armed officers stationed at the school gates on Wednesday afternoon. All students were confined to their classrooms as a safety measure during the lockdown.
Access to the school grounds was restricted, with pedestrians and vehicles prevented from entering or leaving the area. Police dogs were deployed within the school premises, while a police drone was observed surveilling the school and its surroundings.
According to the police, a teenager has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and is currently held in police custody. Authorities are expected to maintain a presence at the school, as reported by Wales Online.
A spokesperson from Dyfed-Powys Police stated that a 17-year-old male from Carmarthenshire was arrested in connection with the threats against a pupil at Ysgol Bro Myrddin. The school is set to reopen as usual on Thursday, with additional police presence to offer support and reassurance to students and staff.
As the lockdown occurred towards the end of the school day, buses assigned to pick up students were delayed and lined up along the road leading to the Pibwrlwyd area. After a brief delay, buses were permitted to enter the school bus bays to collect the students, with some being picked up by their concerned parents. By approximately 5:45 pm, all students had left the premises.
