Britons have been cautioned about the possibility of enduring a challenging 60-hour period of snowfall hitting various regions of the UK, as indicated by weather maps.
The dropping temperatures are expected to bring snow showers across the nation in the coming days. WX Charts, utilizing MetDesk data, has forecasted that snowfall might commence in the UK in less than two weeks, specifically on December 17. This suggests that citizens could witness a covering of snow just before the Christmas festivities.
According to the weather predictions, later on that day, snowfall could encompass areas of Western Scotland, extending down towards North West England.
The snowy conditions are anticipated to persist overnight and into the early hours of December 18. These snow showers could affect a large portion of Northern England, including Lancashire and Yorkshire, as highlighted in the weather forecasts.
Furthermore, the snowfall might also envelop central Wales and could reach as far south as Devon, as per the forecast. By 6 am on the same morning, the snowy weather is predicted to move northwards towards the southern regions of Scotland.
The snow flurries are expected to continue through December 19, with areas of Scotland and North Yorkshire likely to encounter more snowfall.
Despite the reports of a potentially White December, the Met Office’s forecast differs from that of WX Charts. The Met Office’s long-range forecast for December 11 – 20 projects spells of rain and strong winds sweeping across the country.
The Met Office stated, “A continuation of a similar pattern to that seen through early December is anticipated, especially at first, as frontal systems from the Atlantic spread into and across the UK, interspersed with some temporary drier interludes.”
“These weather systems will bring intermittent spells of rain, potentially heavy at times, which could result in some impacts given the recent wet conditions. Additionally, there is a possibility of periods of strong winds at certain intervals.”
“While the weather is expected to remain relatively mild, there could be a shift towards temperatures returning closer to average later in the period, with a slightly increased likelihood of wintry conditions in northern parts of the UK, especially in elevated areas.”
With the prospect of snowfall this month, some individuals have been pondering the likelihood of a White Christmas in the UK. A White Christmas is confirmed when a singular snowflake falls anywhere in the country during December 25.
In the Met Office’s latest forecast for the Christmas period, spanning December 21 to January 4, it anticipates “changeable conditions” across the UK.
The forecast suggests that low-pressure systems will prevail, leading to the likelihood of “showers or longer periods of rain, occasionally heavy, across much of the UK, with some hill snow in the north.”
